What are the challenges and benefits that come from being an outsider in a local music scene, and what opportunities does it present, particularly towards the current status quo?

Host:
N.E.GIRL (DJ, promoter, Community builder)
Esther Kakai aka N.E.GIRL is Nairobi-born, London-raised and Copenhagen-based, and these cultural identities sing throughout her work.
N.E.GIRL is not just a lethal weapon behind the decks, but a community builder behind the scenes. Represented in sets for Keep Hush, Rupture and HÖR Berlin, she describes her sound as “worldy, techno-infused and sub-bass driven”. It’s dark but soulful, peppered with “fun, syncopated rhythms blending nicely into jungle.”
Heavily inspired by the UK underground and global club scenes, she has developed a reputation for her multi-genre bass-driven style, experimenting with different techniques to build energy on the dance floor.
A part of Copenhagen-based underground label and booking agency Another Name, N.E.GIRL is a club promoter and curator for Strøm festival and aims to showcase innovative styles either within her sets or through the events she programs, exploring the boundaries of multi-genre mixing.
Panel guests:
Amalie Lind (Alternate on the Nightlife Committee, nightlife, and cultural activist)
Amalie Lind (she/her) is one of the driving forces behind the Copenhagen-based rave-collective Endurance that hosts monthly events as a part of the underground electronic music scene. They focus on community and diversity and put an effort into creating a safer space for the people attending. She excels in creating the community around the parties Endurance host, and making people, new as old, feel a part of something bigger. She is also co-founder and member of Københavns Frie Promotere and a part of both the political and the awareness group in KFP.
Irina Panovich (Web3 researcher, Writer, Curator)
Irina Panovich is a Web3 researcher, community builder, and writer. Works at an open-source finance project by day and by night builds 320colab - a sound, art, and tech experimental collective. Irina prefers to let ideas and projects grow and develop organically over the long run, building emergent digi-physical communities as vehicles for diversity, equity, and creative expression. Currently, Irina writes about tensions in urban cultural district development and is an early contributor to UFO Club and Voyager.xyz and co-organiser of ETH and Web3 Copenhagen Meetup.
Anton Sandholt aka. Fruit DJ (DJ, producer, promoter)
Copenhagen-based producer, DJ, and promoter, Fruit, originally from Iceland, has developed a reputation in the Copenhagen club scene with his sets and club nights (Rewild), offering a unique style and musical expression.
Troels Knudsen aka CTRLS (Producer and DJ)
The Ctrls project was founded In 2012. From the first release, the presence of a highly individual sonic style was apparent and his fast-paced and futuristic techno-based sound has now been well-established with a stream of respected music on labels such as Token Records, Earwiggle, Micron Audio, and Key Vinyl. A lifelong devotee of electronic dance music, DJ’ing, and live performance is central to the project. This has resulted in many involved sets at globally notable venues such as Tresor, Fold, Berghain, Khidi, Fabric, Kit Kat, Fold, and Club Drugstore. The future heralds a wider scope as electro, breakbeats, noise, and audio-visual components are incorporated, as well as the physical Future Awkward and SafeCom event series.
This is a free panel discussion. However, due to the very limited spots available, please make sure to RSVP via the Google Form below.
